Get a new nom de plume

Everyone knows that bands names are only cool once a band become famous. They also know they run in trends. About two years ago every band had wolf or wolves in the title and it was boring ( Wolf and Cub, Wolf Parade, Wolf Eyes etc...)

So the 'Kids' explosion in names isn't exactly a surprise. With The Black Kids, The Dead Kids and The Cool Kids reppin' for young goats everywhere. The latter are probably the pick of the bunch marrying minimal production with effortless flows - they sound like what Pharrell and Hugo should have done rather than hiring Aleshia and designing sunglasses for Louis Vuitton.

I'm well aware i'm about 6 months behind everyone else who jumped on this hate wagon but it's fun playing catch up and not being bored by cool new music because i'm not that desperate to hear, rate and probably slate it all within 30 seconds.

Here's the Cool Kids first video for 'Black Mags' (above) and a fun interview (below) - fun times at the playground!

I'm loving Mr Parkinson what a host, what a douchebag or should I say poomplex.

Get back Gordon Ramsey :)

I got this recipe from a friend in London, it is the most detailed recipe i've ever seen and it's for the tastiest rice in West Africa, jollof.

Recipee [sic]:

1 250mls cup of rice
1 big sized fresh red pepper
2 small pieces of fresh hot red pepper
1 big sized fresh ripe tomatoe
1 medium sized whole chicken or £2.00 worth of beef
2 - 4 cubes of maggi
200mls of vegetable oil
1 tube of tomato puree
Butter
Onion
2 table spoon ful of curry or any spice of your choice
2 table spoonful of thyme or any spice of your choice
Cooking Salt
Water
Pot

Preparation

1. Clean the chicken or beef or both as the case may be
2. Put in a pot, add 1 table spoon each of curry and thyme or the spices of your choice, 2 cubes of maggi, dice in some onion -half of a medium size, a level spoonful of cooking salt.
3. Stir together, cover and leave for about 10 - 15 mins.
4. Light the gas burner, put the pot that contains the chicken on the fire, add a little water and let it boil for about 45 mins, stirring in between.
5. while the meat is boiling, clean the pepper, remaining onion, tomatoes and blend together in blender until smooth.
6. when the beef/chicken is done, pack it into a clean bowl, and pour the stock in a strainer
7. wash the pot or get another one, put it on the fire, pour the veg. oil, warm itthen pour the ground pepper, add the tomatoe puree, half of the tube in a medium sized, add the remaining 2 cubes of maggi, as well as the remaining curry and thyme, stir everything together and cover for it to fry for 20mins, stirring in between, while this fries, pour the rice into a bowl, wash with water twice, in the bowl using both hands, rinse twice, and then pack into a strainer for the water to drain.
8. if u choose to fry the beef, pour the veg oil into a frying pan instead of the pot, fry the beef, pour the oil in a strainer, after which u go back to step 7.
9. After 20 mins. add the washed rice, 1,000mls of water, 1 levelspoonful of cooking salt,3 heaps of table spoon full of butter, cover, let it boil for 30 mins.
10. Check to see if it is done, if not get a wooden spoon, lift the rice from the pot at the different corners so it does not burn.
11. if it is not done, add 100mls of water or as the case may be, lower the fire like you are steaming it, turn it with the wooden spoon as described in step 10, do not stir or else it is mashed an will stick together or become messy.
12. check after 10 - 15 mins, it should be ready to be served.

Serving: dish in a flat plate, add the beef by the side of the plate or in another.
if you like you can serve with mixed veg. cole slaw or whatever you choose.

Holy Duck!

Quack Quack are still my favourite 'artish' band at the minute - This is a performace of 'Mars' which was released with 'The Great Gatsby' a while back and is a total gem.

Holy Fuck are still doing it, i remember a review of them in Sandman abou 18 months ago which brandish them as 'musical bigots' whatever that means?! This is 'Lovely Allen' which is so subtle and heart felt it makes me want to beef real tears.

Que?

This is the new peaches video, i've lifted it straight off of Big Stereo but it is bloody immense!

Who's the real T-Dot???

T-Dot doesn't seem like it should the most popular name ever but apparently there are two emcees both staking claim to the T based moniker. The first is T-dot of TS7 and bassline fame, touted by Simon Reynolds as 'basslines answer to Lady Sovereign'.

Here she is in Bradford with TS7:

And here is the US rapper of same name with "Who give a fuck". Not the best use of English but you get the point! Not too sure why he's talking about 'merking niggas' he probably saw Rio Ferdinand's prank show and thinks its the in'ting BRAPPPP!

Dope = Nope

Just stumbled upon this gem today. WTF is going on with Screeches shirt? how can anyone who is wearing a shirt that looks like something Tim Leary would throw up give you advice on not taking drugs?

Not really good enough....

I was out t'other night when me and a pal got to talking about new music. We covered alot of stuff from how good Trimbale was, to how bad craig david getting his hands on a t2 tune would be.

Then we spoke about Santogold and Foals, who collectively have been hyped so much i think they'll be the next big things in 2017 and beyond.

As well as this we talked about the new Jools Holland show where he runs around in a petrified state incase he says 'piss' or 'poo' by mistake. Anyway Santogold was on last night and it was bloody shocking, she was like a plank of wood strapped to a concrete block, static!

This is Santogold trying to be more still than a frozen lake - seriously i was going to see her live until i saw this snoozefest! Plus Foals actually livin up to their hype on Jools (when he wasn't so frightened!)

Nothing but vapour

I can't stop listening to the MJ's their operating on a new level right now, the cheesy keyboard in this is just mint as is the sax! My friend went to see them in Wrexham last night and said there was about five people there but that's part of the appeal - they make great pop music you can enjoy without having to share it with a bunch of Carling swigging barrel boys!

The Switch remix of 'Hideaway' is sick as well, it's bassline royalty.

Here's a pretty grim recording of the original

...and an acoustic version of 'Young love'

Shout it out loud!

Sportsday Megaphone are coming on nicely! I saw them in Bradford at Grandaland a while back and they didn't disappoint. This is them at the proud galleries in Camden before it was refurbished sounding alot like Art Brut on a really good day.

Nice day for a white wedding

Barabra got more than she bargained for

I was on the train back to Sheffield after a bank holiday trip to see Tin Pot Dictators in Shoreditch and i overheard a rather knee trembling conversation.

Two unfortunates behind me were talking about a new disorder that is shaking the very foundations of the church.

The new disorder is called 'White wedding fever' and affects overtly pious but also overtly horny christian men. The disorder comes about when a young man becomes stressed and anxious before his wedding day and night.

The man who has been told for years that sex before marriage is wrong, starts to question whether sex after marriage could be any better.

From this the dilluded youngster comes up with a demented solution 'how about sex during marriage?!'

Why not? the little tinker thinks and on the day of his wedding he sets himself and pounces on his bride creating a new take on the phrase 'Taking her up the aisle'.

Wedding guests recoil in horror and the bride is simply thankful she had a pre nup and was wearing white!
